Hurricane Irma decimated several Caribbean Islands with catastrophic winds, rain, and storm surge. Many people lost their homes, possessions, businesses, and their livelihoods. The Virgin Islands yacht charter fleet was hit particularly hard. Numerous charter vessels were sunk or destroyed along with many of the businesses that were directly tied to the charter industry.
Both the British Virgin Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands rely heavily on the yacht charter industry for a significant portion of the tourist revenue generated in these islands. Without a robust charter fleet the tourism industry in the Virgin Islands will suffer considerably. It is imperative that the fleet and related businesses rebuild quickly in order to boost the tourism industry and keep desperately needed revenue flowing to these islands reeling from Hurricane Irma.
For those who love to vacation in the Virgin Islands and other locales affected by Irma, please continue to do so. Your tourism dollars will help speed the recovery and will help maintain the livelihoods of so many locals who have lost everything. Additionally, do not hesitate to donate anything you can to help those affected by Irma. Yachtaid Global is just one relief organization that is dedicated to helping victims of Hurricane Irma. Their website is as follows: http://yachtaidglobal.org
